Lincoln Presidential Library Welcomes Author of ‘Presidential Road Trips’

SPRINGFIELD – Summer is the season for road trips, and America’s 250th birthday is a great time to dig into presidential history. So don’t miss a chance to hear from the author of a fascinating book about hitting the road to learn about American presidents at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
Bill Clevlen, author of “Presidential Road Trips: 100 Places to Explore and Experience the History of American Presidents,” will speak at the ALPLM on June 23 at 6:30 p.m. He’ll take the audience from George Washington’s birthplace to the train depot where Jimmy Carter launched his campaign, and from the library where James Madison worked on the Constitution to the leather chair where an ailing Ulysses S. Grant spent his final weeks writing a book. And he’ll explain how to visit not one but two aircraft that served as Air Force One.
Clevlen is a travel writer and author based in St. Louis. He has written seven travel-themed books, including “100 Things to Do in America Before You Die” and “The Ultimate American Music Bucket List.”
The event is free, but advance registration is required. Visit the Events section at www.PresidentLincoln.illinois.gov to reserve a seat. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., and the program begins at 6:30 in the museum’s Union Theater. Copies of “Presidential Road Trips” will be on sale afterward, and Clevlen will be available to sign them and talk with visitors.
