
Journey to Freedom Illinois’ Underground Railroad

Pontiac Tourism, in partnership with the Pontiac Public Library, has brought a new traveling exhibit, “Journey to Freedom Illinois’ Underground Railroad” to Pontiac! See this new exhibit for yourself from January 31st to March 5th, 2025, during regular business hours at the Pontiac Public Library. The exhibit will also feature the Underground Railroad Quilt Walk: a display featuring a variety of quilts made by local Pontiac artists and students. This exhibit highlights the stories of freedom seekers and the many conductors who took on great risk in the search for freedom and dignity.
There will be 4 companion programs/presentations that further highlight the Illinois’ Underground Railroad history. These include:
- Historic Voices’ Laura Keyes as Lucy Pettengill Station Operator on the Underground Railroad Presentation on February 4th at the Pontiac Public Library at 5:30PM.
- The Underground Railroad in Livingston County, IL by Dale Maley presentation on February 11th at the Pontiac Public Library at 5:30PM.
- Songs of the Illinois Freedom Road Meet & Greet with Chris Vallillo on February 22nd at Pontiac Public Library at 1PM.
- Finally, Songs of the Illinois Freedom Road Musical Performance on February 22nd at the Eagle Theater at 3PM.
