Illinois’ First Lady to Discuss Governor’s Mansion at Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum
October 4 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
SPRINGFIELD – Illinois has one of the oldest and most historic governor’s mansions in America, and First Lady MK Pritzker has led efforts to give it an appropriately warm, welcoming interior. On Oct 4, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum welcomes the first lady as she discusses the mansion and her new book about it.
The first lady will share stories about some of the mansion’s renowned residents and visitors – including Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt – and explain how the building has changed with the culture and style of the times. She’ll also describe her collaboration with Michael S. Smith, designer at the Obama White House, to bring the mansion’s rooms alive with an eye towards creating welcoming spaces that preserve the history and culture of Illinois.
Mrs. Pritzker will take questions from the audience and sign copies of her new book, “A House That Made History: The Illinois Governor’s Mansion, Legacy of an Architectural Treasure.”
The program begins at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4 Tickets are available in advance for $10 per person at https://presidentlincoln.illinois.gov/events. You may also purchase a copy of the book for $65. All proceeds will be donated to the Illinois Governor’s Mansion Association to ensure its future upkeep and preservation.
The mission of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is to inspire civic engagement through the diverse lens of Illinois history and sharing with the world the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln.
