Route 66, USA – The Route 66 Road Ahead Partnership has updated the section of its bylaws governing Board membership, allowing the number of Board members from the Route 66 States to increase from one to two. The Road Ahead Board of Directors will vote to formally approve proposed state representatives by a simple majority of the Board’s total membership.
The updated Bylaws call for this one-time special election to potentially seat one new representative per state to the Route 66 Road Ahead Partnership Board of Directors, assuming qualified organizations choose to submit a candidate. Qualified organizations in each Route 66 State are asked to submit the name/resume of a candidate they wish to put forward for election to the Road Ahead Board of Directors to Board Chairman Bill Thomas at: wthomas@teleologic.net. Names/resumes must be submitted by or before 12/31/25. The Board of Directors will convene in January 2026 to conduct this election.
From its establishment, each Route 66 state has selected one representative to sit on the Road Ahead Board. In most cases, state Route 66 Associations have made this choice, even though the Road Ahead bylaws do not specifically reference the Associations. Rather, the Road Ahead’s bylaws leave it up to each Route 66 state to decide who, and by what process, it will have as its representative on the Road Ahead Board.
Qualified organizations within each Route 66 state will determine their own method for identifying a proposed representative to sit on the Road Ahead Board of Directors. The phrase “qualified organizations” is defined as “those organizations whose mission focuses primarily on Route 66, which are duly incorporated and in good standing in their respective state, and are designated exempt by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization.”
Established in 2016, with the support of the National Park Service and the World Monuments Fund, The Route 66 Road Ahead Partnership’s mission is to revitalize and sustain Route 66 as a national and international icon through partnerships focused on promotion, preservation, research, education, and economic development.
