As part of ongoing Route 66 research, the U.S. Route 66 Centennial Commission is trying to locate at least one “Coca-Cola Ghost Sign” in each Route 66 state. Ghost signs are painted advertisements that have faded over time, but remain visible on the exterior of a commercial building. See: https://www.ephemerasociety.org/ghost-signs/.

This mission in support of the “Light Capsule Project” – an “Official Route 66 Centennial Activity” as designated by the Route 66 Centennial Commission. See: https://winslow.studio/project/lightcapsules.

The Shop on 66 in Gardner
The Shop on 66 in Gardner, Illinois is a depository of Coca-Cola memorabilia.

Please let the commission know if you’re aware of any Coca-Cola ghost signs in your area. If you have an image and/or address that would be great – but even take the name of a town and general location, so a focused Google street view search could be done.

Any leads you can give will be greatly appreciated. Know of a ghost sign in your area? Email Bill Thomas at wthomas@teleologic.net. Thanks in advance for your help!
