Celebrate Día de Muertos During Free Event on Saturday

November 1 @ 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Día de Muertos
The McLean County Museum of History is hosting a free, community event to celebrate Día de Muertos on Saturday, November 1, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.

People of all ages are welcome. Stop by to discover something new, listen to live music, make some art, and add a deceased loved one’s photo to the community ofrenda.

This event is truly for the community, and by the community.
Marcos Mendez will play music throughout the evening. At 4 p.m., Tiyoli Velasquez will perform a traditional dance, sharing the story of Día de Muertos.  Miriam Padilla and Jesus Islas designed and will install a new, larger-than-life ofrenda for this year’s celebration. Lupita’s Grocery Store is supplying pan dulces. Bay Area Mexicana will have its food truck set up outside the museum, offering a full menu of food for purchase. Hannah Johnson will lead an art-making activity. A dozen local non-profits, such as Latinos en BloNo and The Immigration Project, will host activities on all four floors of the Museum’s historic courthouse building. Please click here for a complete list of participating organizations.

To add a loved one to the community ofrenda, please bring a 5″ x 7″ or smaller photocopy image. The Museum will provide the rest.
Día de Muertos is a celebration rooted in Mesoamerican culture and tradition. The museum began regularly celebrating the holiday in 2018.
Julie Emig, the Museum’s Executive Director, says “We are proud to partner with our community and provide the space to gather, reflect, remember, and celebrate those who came before us. We hope people will come to experience the vibrancy of our community and learn something new this weekend.”

Free parking is available on the streets around the square and in the Lincoln Parking Deck located a block south of the museum on Front Street in Downtown Bloomington.
