Another GIANT Coming to Atlanta!
August 16 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
The public is invited to welcome another new “Giant” to Atlanta, Illinois, when a 19-foot-tall fiberglass statue of a waitress holding an apple pie is installed at the town’s CountryAire Restaurant this Friday, August 16th. Earlier this summer, restaurant owner Nick Beckteshi noted the many tourists visiting Atlanta’s new American Giants Museum and decided he, too, would like a giant designed to entice visitors to his family-style eatery.
The “Lumi” Giant is named after Nick’s wife, an Illinois State Fair Grand Champion Pie Baker, whose feat inspired the giant’s pie-wielding design. Installation of the “Lumi” Giant will begin at approximately 11:00 a.m. The public is invited to bring a lawn chair and watch.
Mark Cline used the original model of the Uniroyal Tire Gal giants built in the 1960s by International Fiberglass Company, to design and fabricate the Lumi Giant at his Enchanted Castle Studio in Natural Bridge, Virginia. She was then transported to Atlanta last week.
The Lumi Giant is dressed as a waitress, complete with an order pad, cat-eyeglasses, and a waitress cap. She will stand on the west side of the CountryAire Restaurant parking lot, where visitors can also enjoy an outdoor picnic table next to her.
