Litchfield Museum & Route 66 Welcome Center Announces New Publication: Historic Route 66, Montgomery County, Illinois, A Pictorial History

Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway
Historic Route 66 Montgomery County

This new 90-page book is now available at the Litchfield Museum & Route 66 Welcome Center and by mail, and is a walk down memory lane for anyone who has lived in the Litchfield and Montgomery County area, and an interesting bit of Route 66 history for those who have a focused interest on the Mother Road.

Montgomery County is unique in that both the 2-lane and 4-lane alignments of Route 66 run along the west side of Litchfield. Along with a short history of Litchfield, there is a section about the building of the two corridors of Route 66 through the county. There are pictures and information about many of the businesses which were along the highway from 1926-1977, when it was decommissioned and Interstate 55 became the main highway through the county.

Books are $25 and can be picked up from the Litchfield Museum & Route 66 Welcome Center or can be ordered by mail with an additional $6 shipping charge.
