As part of the $1.5 million IL DCEO Route 66 Grant that Heritage Corridor Destinations was awarded last year, a giant guitar sculpture was commissioned from the artist Shannon MacDonald. The sculpture, nicknamed Gigantar, measures 24′ tall and recently arrived at the Illinois Rock & Roll Museum on Route 66.

The Illinois Rock & Roll Museum on Route 66 located at 9 West Cass Street in Joliet honors and celebrates the musical contributions of Illinois to the world. Based in Joliet, and opening soon, the museum will feature artifacts from musicians and bands from across all of Illinois, jam sessions and vinyl listening stations, musical story times and crafts, school tours and networking and business skills for artists. Programs and workshops will connect and support musicians and music lovers of all ages in Illinois and around the world.
