Great Rivers & Routes Route 66 Postcard Murals Become Reality

Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway

Have you seen the new Route 66 Postcard Murals popping up in communities across the Great Rivers & Routes region?

To date, four murals have been completed in Collinsville, Edwardsville, Granite City and Hamel. A mural is currently underway in Staunton. Litchfield is next on the list.

The murals are part of the Last 100 Miles of Route 66 initiative spearheaded by Bureau President and CEO Cory Jobe. A total of $919,000 in state grant funds is being utilized to add new tourism opportunities to the Last 100 Miles of Route 66 throughout the region in preparation of the Centennial Anniversary of the Mother Road in 2026.

A total of twelve postcard-style murals are planned for throughout the region and will also include the communities of Virden, Girard, Gillespie, Carlinville, Livingston, and East St. Louis.
