Project Wingspan Illinois’ Pollinator Habitat Opportunities for Volunteers and Landowners

Attention Pollinators Habitat Enthusiasts – would you be interested in joining a native wildflower seed collection team this fall or applying for a native wildflower seed award? Pollinator Partnership’s Project Wingspan is offering an online training and certification event to ready volunteers for local native wildflower seed collection events starting in a couple of weeks. Project Wingspan works from a USFWS grant to empower a state-wide network of volunteers to add and enhance pollinator habitat acres throughout Illinois. You can get involved in two ways:

1)      Volunteer to scout native wildflowers and collect native wildflower seeds at a local prairie with Project Wingspan. There are seed collection teams all over Illinois. These teams collect seeds at designated partnering prairies. The seeds are then cleaned at an IDNR facility and distributed to local Illinois pollinator habitat projects. You can become a certified volunteer on your own by visiting https://www.pollinator.org/wingspan/seed-collection or by attending an online virtual training and certification event. No registration needed, just enter the zoom room on Wednesday evening, August 9^th. Here is the zoom information, below.

2)      Got pollinator habitat? If you are interested in enhancing your lands for wildlife, gaining free access to pollinator habitat technical trainings and resources, and being considered for an award of hand-collected, cleaned local native wildflower seeds, contact Eleanor Schumacher at es@pollinator.org.
