Lunch & Learn: Doing Oral Histories and the Bloomington-Normal Black History Project

February 13 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Lunch & Learn
Bring your lunch and join us Join us for an engaging talk on doing oral histories and the Bloomington-Normal Black History Project during our Lunch & Learn on Thursday, February 13, from 12:10 to 1:00 p.m. with Andrew Thomas, chairperson of the Bloomington-Normal Black History Project.

Doing an oral history is not a “one-size-fits-all” project. Each project needs to be tailored to a specific topic, community, cultural background, or the individual that is being interviewed, as experiences and perspectives vary greatly. Andrew Thomas, chairperson of the Bloomington-Normal Black History Project who is currently working on his PhD in history of the University of Illinois, will share information on how to do oral histories and customize them based on the background of interviewees. Thomas will also give an update on the Black History Project and the ongoing efforts to document the history of the local Black community.

The Museum’s Lunch & Learn series is made possible with the support of our presenting sponsor, MCK CPAs & Advisors. This series provides unique learning opportunities every second Thursday of the month over the lunch hour (12:10-1:00 p.m.) in person and live via youtube.com/mchistorymuseum.

Save the dates in your calendars for the next two Lunch & Learns on March 13 and April 10, 2025.
