Village of Elkhart Kick Off Christmas!
November 21, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
It is almost time to welcome the wonderful Christmas season with the annual Christmas Open Houses in the quaint village of Elkhart! Three shops, The Country Bumpkin, Birdsong Books and Vintage, and Horsefeathers Antiques and Gifts will be decked out for the holidays in their own unique styles. There will be complimentary hot beverages available to shoppers to warm them up while shopping. Each shop has a different look and stock assortment while all enjoy the ambiance of being housed in charming red brick buildings of yesteryear … all over 100 years old.
Birdsong Books and Vintage specializes in a comprehensive collection of books covering Illinois history, the arts, biographies, poetry, children’s books, and much more. Their collection of vintage Christmas fare is amazing from paper goods, tree ornaments, ceramic decorative objects, lights, garlands, and other unique items too numerous to list. There is also a selection of vintage clothing, jewelry, and accessories. The rest of the treasures in this wonderful shop are often one-of-a kind including vintage ceramics, glass, kitchenalia, toys, old paintings, cement, metal garden pieces, and lots more.
The Country Bumpkin has a wonderful collection of estate sale level antique and decorative furniture, lamps, glass, ceramic items, and great pieces to brighten up kitchens and dining areas. The shop also has a large selection of hand carved wooden figurines made by a local craftsman, beautiful vintage and contemporary jewelry, old books, silverplate, old and new toys, and more. The shop has a room devoted to items just for men, who are often difficult to shop for, from vintage tools and decorative items for their “man caves” to items to decorate home bars. The Country Bumpkin is also the Welcome Center in the village with a comprehensive selection of tourist information pamphlets. As a first, starting this year, there is a plan afoot to sell Christmas trees and pine bow wreaths in the courtyard adjoining the shop.
Horsefeathers sails on much as they have in the past with a huge selection of antique and vintage depression glass, carnival and pressed glass, McCoy and other pottery works ceramics, old kitchen gadgets and decorative items, teapots, cookie jars, blue and white china, milk glass, one of a kind objects, paintings, and silk florals. There is always more coming through the door. There is a very large selection of vintage jewelry, a corner devoted to Route 66 souvenirs and collectibles, great greeting cards, books, and paper goods. A favorite in the kitchen shop is the section loaded with Amish goodies such as jams, mustards, flavored mayonnaise, popcorn, and old-fashioned candy.
So, come and see us! Shop until you drop! Enjoy a delicious lunch and yummy homemade desserts in The Wild Hare Café, take a spin around the village and sign up for one big gift hamper valued at $200 put together by the three shops (tickets available in the shops).
