Springfield’s History Comes Alive Returns for a 13th Season

Springfield, IL – The 13th Annual History Comes Alive program is about to kick off in Springfield, Illinois! Starting June 3 through August 7, 2022 Abraham & Mary Lincoln lead a cast of characters on a trip back in time. Meet the Lincolns at historic sites throughout the city and learn about their lives in Springfield.
From historic portrayals at locations such as the Lincoln Home National Historic Site, the Old State Capitol, and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, to a Flag Lowering Ceremony at the Lincoln Tomb with the 114th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry Reactivated, visitors are invited to become a part of living history. Listen to Abraham deliver some of his most famous speeches, connect with Mary over tea at the Vachel Lindsay Home, and enjoy live music and an ice cream social with the two at Edwards Place while enjoying the sound of the Springfield Municipal Band.
New weekly programs in 2022:
“History Cooks: Food of Lincoln’s Springfield” every Friday afternoon at 1pm. Join Springfield area chefs and Lincoln Land Community College’s Culinary Program for this ten-week culinary series at the Lincoln Home National Historic Site will run from June 3 through August 5. Each program is complete with a cooking demonstration and a souvenir recipe card so you can re-create the tasty dishes at home! Make sure to collect them all!
Free shuttle to Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site – Let us shuttle you back in time as you reserve your spot on the free Saturday morning shuttle to Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site. The reservation link can be found through https://
Free shuttle service from Union Square Park to the African American History Museum and the Lincoln Tomb – Hop-on, hop-off service will be offered on Saturday’s, every half an hour from Noon – 4:30 PM from Union Square Park to the African American History Museum and the Lincoln Tomb. Reservations are not required for the hop-on, hop-off shuttle.
Additional weekly special events in 2022 include: free guided tours of Ace Sign Company’s Sign Museum, a guided garden history walk at Lincoln Memorial Gardens, IDNR’s Walk, Hike, Bike series, and a special Thursday morning tour with Springfield Walks. Special programs will be held at the African American History Museum, the Illinois State Museum, the Illinois State Military Museum, the Lincoln Home & Neighborhood, the grounds of the Old State Capitol, the Lincoln Depot, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, and more.
