#Route66onthe6th – “It’s Greek to Me! Greek-owned Restaurants on the Road!”

December 6 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Greek-owned Restaurants

Free tickets now available for the December 6th Six Degrees of Route 66 #Route66onthe6th – “It’s Greek to Me! Greek-owned Restaurants on the Road!”

Yes, as usual, on the 6th at Sixty-Six minutes after 6! (7:06 PM Central Time USA).
Many of our favorite eateries along the highways of the U.S. were founded or are currently owned by Greek families. In the December episode of Six Degrees of Route 66 (my new name for #Route66onthe6th) we will hear from Nick and Demi Adams, the recently-retired proprietors of the Ariston Cafe in Litchfield, Illinois. We will take a look at two iconic Chicago eateries: Lou Mitchell’s, owned and operated by the Thanas family, and Miller’s Pub, run by the Gallios Brothers and their family since the 1950s.

And we will go back to see how it all began. The building in Chicago’s Greektown that is now home to the Athenian Candle Company once displayed a sign that said “Look for Raklios Restaurants.” So look I did, and I discovered the amazing story of John Raklios, a Greek immigrant who came to Chicago with just $10 to his name. Within a few years he was known as the Cafe King of Chicago, whose innovations in dining still resonate in our favorite eateries to this day.
So I hope you can join me for the December 6th edition of Six Degrees of Route 66 – #Route66onthe6th, “It’s Greek to Me! Greek-owned Restaurants on the Road!” This month it is once again FREE to register on Eventbrite:
