Re-Opening Celebration of Route History, Inc.

Route History

You are cordially invited to the Re-Opening Celebration of Route History, Inc.  This event will be held at 737 East Cook Street, Springfield, Illinois.  The two-part event will include the one hour ribbon cutting ceremony July 9th at 12:00 p.m.  The ribbon cutting ceremony will be the unveiling of the Springfield Black history themed mural and the “Four Heroes” outdoor exhibit.  At 6:00 p.m., an appreciation ceremony, entitled, The History, The Business and The People will be held to recognize those who have contributed to the foundation and preservation of great historical experiences of Black people in Springfield, Illinois.

Route History

Route History, Inc. is a museum located in Springfield, Illinois, that highlights the experiences, tragedy, resilience and excellence of Black people.  Route History, Inc. tells the often untold stories of Black experiences along Route 66, and the significant contributions of Black businesses in and near Springfield during the time of the underground railroad, Jim Crow era and the Great Migration.  Route History also shares local Black history including the 1908 Race Riot, the Ambidexter Institute and many other significant contributions by Black Americans.
