On Saturday, August 28, 2021, CORE of McLean, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, is holding our 8th annual 6.6k (4.1-mile) run/walk to benefit the community of McLean, IL.
We are excited to once again offer this as a LIVE event!
UPDATE: Participants can get their kicks on Route 66 in this much-anticipated 6.6k (4.1-mile) run/walk from Funks Grove to McLean on Saturday, August 28, 2021. Registrants receive a super-soft cotton t-shirt, brunch ticket, vouchers to Country-Aire in Atlanta and Parkview Inn in Bloomington, a commemorative shot glass, and other gifts from sponsors. Register by August 4th to guarantee a t-shirt in your size. After that, quantities will be
limited and given based on order of registration, so be sure to sign up soon! Participants are shuttled from McLean to Funks Grove Pure Maple Sirup for sign-in, where they are invited to take a complimentary shot of maple sirup for a quick boost of energy for their journey down the Mother Road! Runners and walkers take off at 8 am, making their way to the finish line, where they can pick up their swag. Here they can also check out the new park area at the old water tower, made possible by proceeds from the run/walk in cooperation with the Village of McLean.
“From the pre-race shot of sirup (I had two) to the post-race party to the people honking at us from I-55 to the great bag of swag and t-shirt, this was one really good race,” commented 2019 participant David Joens of Springfield, Ill. “My one claim to fame as a runner is that I have run a race in each of Illinois’ 102 counties. So I know a little bit about races and this one was a really good one.”
First- and second-place finishers in 11 age groups (male and female) will receive awards in the new pavilion on the McLean village square, where participants and the general public can enjoy a delicious brunch from the Dixie and music by Light & Sound by Josh Ummel. Other festivities on the square will last from 8 to 11 am and include adoptable dogs and a silent auction provided by Ruby’s Rescue & Retreat as well as a classic car show by Mid State Cruisers. The Mt. Hope–Funks Grove Library will have activities in the park, and the McLean American Legion will be offering refreshments for sale, making this a great day to bring the family out to McLean! While you’re here, be sure to play a few games at the nostalgic Arcadia and Pinball Paradise, one of our generous sponsors located right on the square.
“I have run several races and this was right up at the top in terms of organization and extremely well run,” says Randi Krehbiel of Hopedale, Ill., also a 2019 participant. “What a fun day!”
This point-to-point 6.6k/4.1-mile run/walk starts in Funks Grove (shuttle service is provided from McLean to Funks Grove), with participants running or walking on the Mother Road herself to our new park under the old water tower in McLean, which was funded by previous proceeds from this event. This race has become a much-anticipated must-do for many—join us in having a great time raising money for our community!
“I have to say, I have been looking forward to this race for months and had such a great time I will be back every year!”
–J.S., Spring Valley, Illinois (2019 participant)
