Darien Garden Club Pollinator Party
June 25, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
We hope to encourage you to provide habitat for pollinators. There will be guidance about plant and bloom types that are favorable for pollinators and their larval stages. We’ll educate you about gardening practices that will provide nesting and overwintering opportunities for these struggling insects as well. We will encourage you to add to the patchwork of habitat that runs up and down the state on the Route 66 Monarch Flyway.
We’ll provide information on native bees, butterflies and birds that pollinate. There will be fun activities for the kids, giveaways, and take-home information. Our friendly garden club members will be on hand to help you with your questions and to help you enjoy the afternoon.
Registration is not required. This is a walk-up event. Eventbrite tickets are FREE and will ensure that you’ll receive reminders to attend so that you will not miss this event.

Here is a sample of what you’ll learn:
Did you know that the Indian Prairie Public Library is located on the Route 66 Monarch Flyway? That means that we’re located on the migration path for monarch butterflies, which fly through Illinois as they migrate as far north as Canada and return to Mexico for the winter. Learn much more when you come to the Pollinator Party!

Did you know that beautiful tiny native bees are important pollinators? They are docile, non- aggressive insects and fun to watch!
Did you know that native bumble bees are needed to buzz pollinate your tomato blossoms? They require leaf litter for their queens to overwinter.
