Selfies on 66 Suggestions for William Shatner on his Route 66 Road Trip
Canadian newspaper "The Prince George Citizen" announced recently that William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk on Star Trek and a police officer on T.J. Hooker, will be traveling Route 66 this summer on a futuristic custom motorcycle manufactured by Rivet. Shatner's Twitter feed pegs the dates as during the week of June 23-June 30. The Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway would like to suggest a few appropriate Selfies on 66 for Mr. Shatner to take and enter in our Selfieson66.com campaign! We certainly feel the most logical selfie (and hopefully Spock would have agreed), would be a Shatner Selfie with yet another famous space traveler - the Gemini Giant in Wilmington!
International Mother Road Festival Hilites a Season of Car Shows Along 66!
With over 1000 cars on display for 80,000 visitors, the 13th Annual International Mother Road Festival in Springfield was yet another stellar 66 event over the final weekend of September. The Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway had another full set of exhibitors at their travel expo as part of the event.
The Cow in the Corn Sculpture - Lincoln, IL

A collaboration from two Lincoln, Illinois artists has produced a 22’ tall x 25’ wide sculpture located in down town Lincoln on the corner of Pulaski and Sangamon streets. Moses Pinkerton and Jason Hoffman of Logan County Arts erected the large steel sculpture with the help of heavy equipment in a downtown area park on July 20th of 2014. The “66” part of the sculpture was “originally loops there for nostrils”, but the 66 that emerged in the design was “an added kicker in promoting the idea to the city (of Lincoln),” according to Pinkerton.

Having moved from Missouri to Michigan in 1976, I'd driven Old 66/I55 many times over the years, but since moving to California, the trip has become a biannual jaunt more or less following Route 66.
Kruzin’ with the Bilecki’s - Litchfield Museum & Route 66 Welcome Center
To quote Larry the Cable guy - “Get ‘er Done” - and they “Got ‘er Done”!!! We went on down for the grand opening and ribbon cutting on June 1st, 2013 of the new museum. This is definitely another addendum to the State of Illinois Mother Road. Thanks to a fledgling group in April of 2011 consisting of Chick Bishop, Anne Jackson and Martha Jackson this dream became a reality.
