Rt. 66 Motorheads Bar Grill & Museum World's Largest Route 66 Shield Dedication 8-14-20
Description
Springfield, Illinois appears to be in the record books, as of Friday August 14, 2020, with the dedication of the World's Largest Route 66 shield at Route 66 Motorheads Bar, Grill & Museum. The facility already has amassed and amazing Route 66 and Springfield-related collection, and the museum complements a busy bar and grill that is housed in a former Stuckey's Restaurant building.

The sign was constructed by Ace Sign Company of Springfield, which also houses an impressive sign museum. The sign measures 32 by 32 feet, which is nearly ten square feet larger than the Route 66 sign located in front of the National Route 66 Museum in Elk City, Oklahoma.

The afternoon dedication was attended by representatives of Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau, Springfield City Alderman Chuck Redpath, Ace Sign Company, and additional representatives from Illinois Office of Tourism, Route 66 Association of Illinois and Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway.

The evening dedication featured remarks from Scott Bringuet of Ace Sign Company and from Ron Metzger, owner of Motorheads. There was also delicious food, live music, classic cars and the lighting of the sign at dusk from spotlights below.

Motorheads Bar, Grill & Museum is located at 600 Toronto Road, which is also near the 1940-1977 final alignment of Route 66, which is the most famous road in the world. For more info, visit www.66motorheads.com.
