Salary $50,000-$70,00 per year commensurate with experience.

 

Byway Description

The Route 66 Byway Program is a small, 501c(3) not for profit corporation with 2 full time employees and 2-4 contractual employees as necessary for particular tasks as determined by the Executive Director.  The annual income is primarily derived from state and federal government sources and is currently $320,000 per year. The mission of the organization is to preserve, protect and promote Route 66 and its various resources within the federally designated Route 66 Corridor in Illinois.

Executive Director Duties  

Under the General direction of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the management of personnel, managing the annual budget, working with government agencies to seek and secure grants.
Assisting Illinois communities within the Route 66 Scenic Byway corridor to utilize Route 66 as a heritage and economic development tool to grow local economies. 
Ensuring adequate promotion of Route 66 to public through development of itineraries, maintenance of website, visitor guides and other advertising and promotions and working with the National Park Service, the Road Ahead Partnership, Illinois Office of Tourism and international organizations to ensure effective promotion of Route 66.
 Marketing the association to various government and private organizations through a variety of mediums to grow financial support.
Protecting and promoting individual historic properties, businesses and the physical road, including its historic context, throughout the corridor.
Working with Board through bimonthly meetings, monthly and annual reports, data-based progress evaluations for organizations and local communities. Annual audit preparation and distribution to Board and government agencies.

Qualifications
The successful candidate for this position shall possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, non-profit management, hospitality or closely related field. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in management and marketing. Background of involvement with a 501c3 highly desirable.

Experience in effective board of directors communication and development
Promotion, public speaking and writing skills
Demonstrated experience working with government agencies, particularly in grant writing
Good organizational skills
 
Job requires overnight travel and valid driver’s license
Working hours are generally business hours M-F but will also require some evenings and weekends.
